Lucius, like his son, has a pointed face with long blond hair and gray eyes.

Psychological

As a member of an old pure-blood family, he believes that Muggles and Muggle-borns are worthless and that only pure-bloods should be in power.

He seems to value Draco's academic achivements very much, and always buys gifts to the kid. He's always polite with other pure-bloods that are rich enough, and despise "muggle-lovers". Narcissa seems to be deeply attached to her husband, and doesn't allow people to speak ill of him in front of him (HBP2, HBP6). Lucius often works as a puppeteer, pulling the strings of many different people and organizations in order to benefit from it's decisions (OP9).

Relationship with Voldemort

Lucius' esteem in the eyes of the Dark Lord only declined after the First War.

Relationship with his family

Relationship with Harry

Hogwarts

Lucius went to Hogwarts in the middle-sixties (OP15), and as immediatly Sorted into Slytherin. He used to study with Narcissa, as well as his future in-laws Bellatrix and Andromeda (BFT). He was a few years older than the Marauders, but still became friends with Severus Snape (HBP2). Sirius Black doesn't mention him as being part of the group of Slytherins that became Death Eaters while at school (GF24).

First War

Lucius was a loyal Death Eater in the First War and was in charge of the Muggle-Torturing (GF33). Arthur Weasley believes he was part of Voldemort's inner circle (CS3). Little before vanishing, Voldemort gave him one of his Horcruxes, the Diary, but didn't warn his servant what exactly the object was, only informing him that it had the ability to open the Chamber of Secrets (HBP23).

Post First War

After the first fall of Voldemort, he and his family claimed to have acted against their will (PS6). He was a Hogwarts governor until he lost the position in the Trio's second year after blackmailing the other governors to agree of the removal to Albus Dumbledore as Headmaster.

Harry Potter first saw Lucius with Draco in Borgin and Burkes in his second year after accidentally Flooing to Knockturn Alley; Lucius is there to sell Dark items in anticipation of a Ministry raid. Mr. Borgin makes a snide remark after Lucius left the store, claiming that if the rumors are true, then Lucius hasn't sold half of the Dark Objects that are hidden in the manor (CS4).

As Lucius and Arthur beliefs are deeply incompatible, Lucius never misses an oppurtunity to pick a fight with him. In Flourish and Blotts, Lucius is quick to inslut Arthur, claiming that he's a 'disgrace to wizards', and that it isn't even worthy it if the Ministry of Magic isn't paying him better for that. He extracts the old copy of A Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration from Ginny and continues to criticise the company that Arthur has, Arthur then attacks him. During the brawl, Lucius was hit in the eye by an Encyclopedia of Toadstools. After the fight, Lucius thrusts the battered book back to Ginny (CS4). It was during this fight that Lucius slipped the diary, which lead to the Chamber of Secrets to be reopened (CS18).

He also purchases Nimbus 2001s for each member of the Slytherin Quidditch team, effectively garanteeing his son's place as Seeker (CS7).

Lucius is very influencial, so he easily manages to convince most of the Committee for the Disposal of Dangerous Creatures to punish Buckbeak, the Hippogriff, for having injured his son; the creature is sentenced to death (PA15). His influence also allows him to like the time when this earned him a seat at the Top Box at the Quidditch World Cup. He donates lots of money to various of charities which can be prized afterwards; or that may help him to look acceptable even after being accused of alligielance with the Death Eaters (GF7).

The generous donations from Lucius also gain him Fudge's respect, who tells him about the lucky escape that Harry has in his hearing for performing the Patronus in the presence of a Muggle (OP9).

Second War

When Voldemort regains his body, Lucius is one of the first to Apparate when summoned, telling his master that he had waited for a sign from him, anything to know he was still alive, but found nothing (GF33). Even if the Dark Lord forgave him, he still told Malfoy that he should have put more effort into finding his Master instead of attaking muggles during the Quidditch World Cup (GF9).

He keeps donating gold for the Ministry and St. Mungo's, presumably under Voldemort's orders, enabling him to ask people favours when needed, despite Harry's frustration and sheer disbelief, and behaved as if nothing had happened; he keeps his strong ties with Fudge and the Ministry (OP9).

He was in charge of obtaining a certain prophecy from the Department of Mysteries, so when Harry and the others arrived, he and a few other Death Eaters like Bellatrix Lestrange and Antonin Dolohov are sent to get the prophecy, to be taken to Voldemort, but without harming Harry. Lucius, however, failed to succeed: the prophecy broke and Voldemort wasn't able to listen to it, the Dumbledore's Army and Order of the Phoenix's members escaped unharmed and the whole Ministry witnessed that Voldemort has indeed returned (OP36). He was sent to Azkaban (OP38).

Voldemort, furious that he could not hear the prophecy and incensed when he realised that the diary Lucius was supposed to take care of was destroyed, decided to punish him through his family. He chose Draco for a dangerous task in which he to kill Dumbledore (HBP27), and started threatening the boy (HBP24). Narcissa didn't believe Draco would succeed, nor did the others, so she begged Snape to protect him and made the Unbreakable Vow with him (HBP2).

By Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Lucius had lost much of Lord Voldemort's former confidence. The Dark Lord took Lucius' wand and mocked him when Lucius involuntarily twitched for Voldemort's wand, expecting an exchange, rather than a loss on his part (DH1).

After the final battle, Lucius wasn't taken back to Azkaban (BLC).
