Helena Ravenclaw is the daughter of Rowena. During her time at school, she was a Ravenclaw (JKRW). After stealing her mother's diadem, Helena fled to Albania. A man that loved her —who would later be known as the Bloody Baron, the resident Slytherin ghost—chased after her and, driven mad by jealousy and envy of her freedom, murdered her. His extreme guilt drove him to commit suicide; he wore chains for the rest of his afterlife in penance.
Tom Marvolo Riddle, acting understanding and compassionate, drove Helena to tell him the story of her life, including the place where she'd hid the diadem in Albania; he later obtained it and turned it into a Horcrux.
After her death, she became known as the Grey Lady, and took the position of resident Ravenclaw ghost (DH31).
