Character:Griselda Marchbanks

Griselda Marchbanks is an extremely elderly woman and one of the examiners for the OWLs. She personally examined Albus Dumbledore in his Charms and Transfiguration NEWTs and said that he "did things with a wand [she] had never seen before" during his examination. She is friends with Augusta Longbottom, who's always telling her that her granson "is not as good as his father" (OP31).

In addition to her duties as an OWLs examiner, Marchbanks was a member of the Wizengamot -- until she and another member of the panel, Tiberius Ogden, resigned in protest for Dolores Umbridge's appointment to the position of Hogwarts High Inquisitor.

Marchbanks put words to her protest in a quote for the Daily Prophet article announcing Umbridge's new post: "'Hogwarts is a school, not an outpost of Cornelius Fudge's office,' said Madam Marchbanks. 'This is a further disgusting attempt to discredit Albus Dumbledore.'" The paper, in an attempt to similarly discredit Marchbanks, followed her quote with (For a full account of Madam Marchbanks' alleged links to subversive goblin groups, turn to page 17) (OP15).
