Character:Edgar Bones

Edgar Bones was a member of the Order of the Phoenix. He was the brother of Amelia Bones. Edgar was killed by a Death Eater along with his wife and children during the First War against Voldemort. He was the uncle of Susan Bones, a Hufflepuff in Harry Potter's year at Hogwarts (OP9, OP25).

Alastor Moody, who told his story to Harry when he showed him a photograph of the original Order, said that he was a great wizard (OP9). Similarly, Rubeus Hagrid named the Bones as one of his examples of great wizarding families that had been killed in the First War when he first told Harry about Voldemort. However, Hagrid probably referred to Susan's grandparents, not Edgar's family (PS4, YC).

After the Death Eater who had committed the murders escaped in a mass breakout from Azkaban, Susan Bones was deeply affected by the unwanted attention she received from her fellow students on account of her uncle's murder. She told Harry that now she could understand what it must feel like to be him, and that she did not know how he could stand it (OP25).
