Character:Cecilia

Cecilia is a pretty, snobbish Muggle girl who was horseback-riding along with Tom Riddle, Sr.. He treated her with endearment, and they were laughing while riding down the winding lane that led to the village of Little Hangleton.

She was horrified by the appearance of the Gaunt shack when the couple approached the shabby house, and asked Tom why Mr. Riddle had not demolished the cottage. He replied that, though everything on the opposite side of the valley belonged to the Riddles, the shack belonged to Marvolo and his children. Riddle also mentioned that Morfin was insane, and that villagers spread several stories about him.

It was easy to hear this dialogue from inside the Gaunt shack, where Bob Ogden had come to give Morfin a warning for having hexed Riddle. Morfin would have gone outside to confront Riddle if Marvolo had not ordered him to remain in his seat.

Cecilia noticed that someone had nailed a snake to the door, and was horrified; Tom recommended that she look away from it, and guessed that Morfin was responsible for such an act. The horses trotted away from the cottage, and the people inside the shack could no longer overhear the couple. Morfin mocked Merope—who was by then very pale—reminding her Riddle had called Cecilia "darling" (HBP10).
