Broderick Bode was a sallow-skinned Unspeakable with a sepulchral voice (OP7). He attended the Quidditch World Cup of 1994; Arthur Weasley pointed him and his colleague Croaker out to his children and Harry and Hermione before the final match (GF7).

Lucius Malfoy cast the Imperius Curse on Bode to try to force him to retrieve the Prophecy from the Department of Mysteries. Bode fought hard against the curse, presumable because he knew he would suffer harm if he tried to take a prophecy that was not meant for him. When he was finally forced to touch it, he was badly injured (OP26); he became unable to speak and somehow believed that he was a teapot.

When Bode started to recover at St. Mungo's, under the care of Miriam Strout, he was murdered by a small Devil's Snare that someone (probably a Death Eater) smuggled in the hospital disguised as an innocent Flitterbloom (OP23, OP25). The only lead to the identity of his assassin is the fact that Bode was visited at the hospital by a "very old stooped wizard with a hearing trumpet" (OP22).

Bode was forty-nine years old when he died. Upon seeing the news of his death on page ten of the Daily Prophet, Ron Weasley said that his father had mentioned Broderick at home (OP25).
