Arcturus Black (1901-1991) was a member of the pure-blood Black family and the paternal grandfather of Sirius and Regulus. He was the son of Sirius and Hesper Black (née Gamp) and had two younger siblings: Lycoris and Regulus. He married Melania McMillan, with whom he had two children: Lucretia and Orion (BFT).

Arcturus was awarded an Order of Merlin, First Class, for services to the Ministry of Magic. When Sirius showed his grandfather's award to Harry Potter in the summer of 1995, he mentioned that the Order of Merlin meant that Arcturus had given the Ministry a large amount of gold (OP6).
