Characteristics
Andromeda bears a strong resemblance to her sister, Bellatrix, although she has lighter hair and kinder eyes. It is also likely that she is tall and especially beautiful, a common resemblance throughout the black family.
Hogwarts Life
Andromeda attended Hogwarts from the mid-60s to the early-70s. Whilst there she was sorted into Slytherin House.
The Second Wizarding War
During the second wizarding war, Andromeda and her husband Ted were allies of the Order of the Phoenix. She lost both him and her daughter, Nymphadora in the war along with her son-in-law, Remus. (It is suggested she is displeased with her daughters marriage to Remus because he was a werewolf.) Consequently she was left to raise her grandson Teddy on her own, with help from Harry Potter, Teddy's godfather.
Family
Andromeda is the daughter of Cygnus Black III and Druella Rosier. She has two sisters, Bellatrix and Narcissa and is the cousin of Regulus and Sirius Black. She was also the mother-in-law of Remus Lupin, after he married her daughter. She is also possibly related to Evan Rosier through her mother's side.
When Andromeda married Ted Tonks she was disowned and blasted from the Black family tree. She was shunned by her sisters because they believed that purebloods should marry only other purebloods. It is likely Andromeda and Bellatrix's relationship was hateful as Bellatrix murdered both Andromeda's daughter and her favourite cousin.
Andromeda has a grandson, Teddy Lupin, who she was left to raise after her daughter and son-in-law died. She was helped by Teddy's godfather, Harry.
Andromeda was Sirius's favourite cousin, probably because they were both blood traitors
Trivia
Andromeda's name comes from a northern constellation that contains the Andromeda Galaxy. It also comes from Greek mythology, a princess who was chained to a rock to be sacrificed to a sea monster as punishment for her mothers boasting. She was saved by Perseus, a hero, who she then marries.
Andromeda is very good at house-holding spells, such as packing. (OP3)
Fanon
Andromeda is sometimes depicted in fanon as a rebel against her family from fairly early on, and as a big help to Sirius when he, too, decided to betray the Blacks' values. On the other hand, some ficwriters believe that her love for Ted Tonks was the only reason for her conduct.
