Anderson is a police constable who, along with his fellow officer Fisher, once chased after Sirius Black and James Potter, seeking to arrest them for exceeding the speed limit (on Sirius' motorcycle), not wearing helmets and failing to stop for the police (WYS).
Anderson and Fisher were pursuing the motorcycle in their police car at night; Sergeant Fisher was driving. When the two boys took a sharp corner into an alleyway, Anderson cried excitedly that this was a dead end street. The street was so narrow that Fisher scraped paint off the car when he followed the motorbike and the two officers could hardly exit their vehicle. Fisher even tore buttons off his uniform and broke off the wing mirror. He told the boys to get off the bike, and they obeyed. Fisher listed their offences, to which James simply replied that they would have loved to stop for a chat. Before he could give the reason that had prevented them, he was interrupted by Anderson, who told him that he should not get smart because they were already deep in trouble and asked for names. Sirius cheerfully started to give obscure names. When he came up with "Elvendork", James added that this one could be used for a boy and a girl. Anderson started to splutter with rage before Sirius finally gave their real names. On hearing the boy's name, Anderson retorted that things would be "seriously black for [him] in a minute."
Sirius and James were no longer paying attention to the policemen; they had noticed that three men on broomsticks—presumably Death Eaters—were approaching. Immediately, they reached for their wands, which Anderson mistook for drumsticks. He thought the boys were pulling a last joke and announced that they were arrested, but before he could name the charge, James and Sirius shouted an incantation and the car's headlight started to move. Both police men wheeled around and moved backwards as they saw the flyers. The car reared up on its back wheels and Fisher collapsed; Anderson stumbled and fell on top of him. They witnessed the three men crash into the car and fall onto the ground unconsciously.
James and Sirius mounted the motorcycle again and started the engine. With his last strength, Fisher turned his head towards the boys and Sirius thanked the officers, calling "we owe you one!" James added that it was nice meeting them and that they should remember the name Elvendork. With a resounding crash, the car fell back onto the ground and caused Anderson and Fisher to throw their arms around each other in fright. Disbelievingly, they watched the motorcycle fly away into the night sky (WYS).
