Character:Alice Longbottom

Alice Longbottom is the wife of Frank Longbottom and, like him, she was a well-known and respected Auror. She has a round face similar to that of her son, Neville.

Both Alice and Frank were members of the Order of the Phoenix. According to Albus Dumbledore, the Prophecy made by Sybill Trelawney could have applied to both Harry Potter and Neville (GF37). This means that the Longbottoms had faced Lord Voldemort three times before the birth of their son, in July, 1980.

Frank was tortured to the point of madness by Barty Crouch, Jr., Bellatrix, Rodolphus and Rabastan Lestrange, who believed that the Auror had information regarding Voldemort's whereabouts. After the act produced no satisfactory outcome, the Death Eaters tortured Alice as well (GF30).

When the four Death Eaters were put to trial, Barty pleaded with his father for mercy, to no avail; Mr. Crouch is deaf to the teenager's begging, and calls his crime "heinous". It appears that the Longbottoms were famous and well-liked in the wizarding community.

Alice is confined to Ward 49 of St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries (OP23); it's debatable whether she is able to recognise her son. When he visits his parents, she gives him gum wrappers. Augusta Longbottom berates Neville for saving all the wrappers with such care.
