There are several periodicals mentioned in the books. Some of them have a terrible reputation, such as The Quibbler; others are known for being respectable and trustworthy, such as the Daily Prophet. It is ironic, therefore, that stories reported in "traditional" wizarding periodicals often play a dubious role in the series: the Prophet is clearly affiliated with the Ministry of Magic, and attempts to discredit Albus Dumbledore when the elderly Headmaster insists on proclaiming the rebirth of Lord Voldemort (GF36).
