- 1995
- Mundungus Fletcher abandons his watch over Harry Potter to see someone about a batch of stolen cauldrons (OP2).
- Dolores Umbridge sends Dementors to Little Whinging, Surrey to prevent Harry Potter from returning to Hogwarts (OP1, OP8, OP32).
- The Dementors attack Harry and Dudley Dursley; One Dementor tries to Kiss Dudley. At 9:23 pm, Harry conjures a Patronus and banishes the creatures (OP1).
- Under the influence of the Dementors, Dudley sees himself as he really is. The experience is traumatising and leads to a personality change (BLC).
- Mrs. Figg, warned of Mundungus' departure by her cat Mr. Tibbles, runs to the scene. She cannot see the Dementors, but feels their influence. She tells Harry that she is a Squib, and that she has watched over him for Albus Dumbledore since Harry's arrival at number four, Privet Drive. Mundungus returns and is sent to report to Albus Dumbledore (OP1, OP2).
- Harry receives an owl from the Improper Use of Magic Office informing him of his expulsion from Hogwarts due to his breach of the Statute of Secrecy (OP2).
- Harry receives letters from Arthur Weasley and Sirius Black telling him not to leave number four, Privet Drive (OP2).
- Dumbledore reminds the Ministry that they cannot expel students. Accordingly, the expulsion is recalled in a second letter to Harry, in which he is summoned to the Ministry of Magic for a disciplinary hearing on August 12 (OP2).
- Vernon, irritated by the several owls that have arrived at the house due to Harry's Patronus, and scared by the threat of Lord Voldemort, whom Harry believes may be responsible for sending the Dementors, threatens to kick him out of the house. Petunia, however, after receiving a Howler from Dumbledore reminding her that Harry depends on the blood protection given by her relationship to Lily Potter, informs Vernon that Harry must stay, though she confines him to his room (OP2).
- Frustrated, Harry sends Hedwig to Ron, Hermione and Sirius, demanding information (OP3).
- 1997
- Harry Potter finds a letter and a picture from Lily Potter to Sirius Black, sent soon after Harry's first birthday, in Sirius' room at number twelve, Grimmauld Place (DH10).
- The Trio discovers that Regulus Arcturus Black, Sirius' deceased younger brother, is the mysterious R.A.B. who stole Slytherin's locket from the Cave (DH10).
- Harry summons Kreacher, who narrates Regulus' story and reveals that Mundungus Fletcher stole the locket (DH10).
- Harry gives Kreacher Regulus' locket and orders the elf to hunt down Mundungus and bring him to the house (DH10).

- 1996
- Arthur, Molly, Ginny, Ron, Harry and Hermione go to Diagon Alley to buy school supplies and visit Fred and George. Hagrid escorts them (HBP6).
- The Trio runs into Draco and Narcissa Malfoy at Madam Malkin's. Later, they follow Draco to Borgin and Burkes and overhear his conversation with Mr. Borgin. Draco threatens the shopkeeper and tells him to reserve one unnamed item (the Vanishing Cabinet) for him (HBP6, HBP27).
- Hermione makes a rather clumsy attempt to find out what item Malfoy has reserved and is thrown out of the shop by Mr. Borgin (HBP6).
- Ginny gets her Pygmy Puff Arnold at Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes (HBP6, HBP7).
- 1997
- The Ministry of Magic announces that all Wizarding children in Britain must attend Hogwarts. However, students must also prove to the Ministry that they are of Wizarding origin before they are allowed to attend the school (DH11).

- 1997
- The Daily Prophet's front page announces that Harry Potter is "wanted for questioning about the death of Albus Dumbledore". It also reports on the introduction of a Muggle-born Registration Commission and prints an extract from Rita Skeeter's biography of Dumbledore (DH11).
- Two Death Eaters appear outside of number twelve, Grimmauld Place, watching the entrance to the house. The entrance is constantly watched by shifts of Death Eaters from this day on (DH11).
- Remus Lupin visits to number twelve, Grimmauld Place, bringing news of the outside world. He also offers to travel with the Trio on their quest for Voldemort's Horcruxes, but Harry rejects his offer, telling Lupin to stay with his pregnant wife (DH11).
- Kreacher appears at number twelve, Grimmauld Place with Mundungus Fletcher, who admits that he gave Slytherin's locket to Dolores Umbridge (DH11).

- The Advance Guard arrives at number four, Privet Drive and escorts Harry Potter to number twelve, Grimmauld Place, where Harry meets his friends and his godfather Sirius again and learns about the Order of the Phoenix (OP4).

- Harry blows up Aunt Marge on the last day of her visit after she insults him and his parents (PA2).
- He runs away and sees a large black dog - Sirius Black in his Animagus form - in Magnolia Crescent (PA3).
- He unwittingly summons the Knight Bus and travels to the Leaky Cauldron, where he meets Fudge. The Minister for Magic advises him to spend the rest oh his holidays at the Leaky Cauldron and assures him that he will not get into trouble for his magical outburst (PA3).
- 1995
- The Trio, Ginny Fred and George clear a Doxy infestation in the drawing room of number twelve, Grimmauld Place under the direction of Molly Weasley. They meet Kreacher, who shuffles into the room to save the Black Family Tree tapestry (OP6.
- Mundungus Fletcher tries to hide a batch of stolen cauldrons in the house, but Molly stops him (OP6).
- After lunch, the children, Molly and Sirius Black clean out the cabinets in the drawing room, which contain a couple of nasty objects. They throw away Slytherin's locket without recognizing it (OP6). Kreacher later steals it back and hides it in his nest under the boiler in the kitchen (DH10).

- Harry has to attend a disciplinary hearing at the Ministry of Magic for conjuring a Patronus in front of a Muggle (OP2). Arthur Weasley accompanies him to the Ministry (OP7).
- Kingsley Shacklebolt secretly shows Harry and Arthur Weasley an edition of the Quibbler, which claims that Sirius Black is Stubby Boardman (OP7, OP10).
- Harry's meeting is rescheduled from ten to eight o'clock, and he is tried by the full court. Albus Dumbledore defends him. He is cleared of all charges (OP8).
- Harry first meets Dolores Umbridge at the hearing. She reminds him of a toad (OP8).
- Lucius Malfoy talks to Minister of Magic Cornelius Fudge on the ninth-level corridor near the entrance to the Department of Mysteries. Harry and Arthur see them (OP9).
- Lucius Malfoy probably casts an Imperius Curse on Order member Sturgis Podmore on this day while Sturgis guards the entrance to the Department of Mysteries under Alastor Moody's spare Invisibility Cloak (OP14, OP17, OP26).

- Harry sees the scene in a dream. He awakes from the pain of his scar (GF1).
- He writes to Sirius to tell him about the incident (GF2).
- The whole Dursley family shares a grapefruit for breakfast because of Dudley's diet (GF3).
- Vernon gets a stamp-covered letter from Molly Weasley. She invites Harry to visit them at the Burrow and attend the Quidditch World Cup. Vernon grudgingly gives his permission (GF3). Ron Weasley later sends his owl Pigwidgeon to assure Harry that they will pick him up the next day no matter what the Muggles say (GF3).

- Arthur Weasley employs his Ministry contacts to arrange a temporary connection of the Dursleys' fireplace to the Floo Network (GF4).
- Arthur, Fred, George and Ron travel to number four, Privet Drive by Floo at half past five. They cannot exit the fireplace, because it is blocked by a fake coal fire. Arthur blows it away and ruins the living room (GF4).
- Fred drops Ton-Tongue Toffees and Dudley picks up one.
- Arthur lights a fire and sends his sons and Harry away. Before Harry leaves, he sees that Dudley's tongue has grown enormously. Arthur tries to help Dudley, but Vernon attacks him (GF4). Finally, Arthur is able to shrink Dudley's tongue and clear up the living room (GF5).
- At the Burrow, Harry meets Charlie and Bill for the first time (GF5).

- Real World: Angelica Mandy, who plays Gabrielle Delacour in the Harry Potter movies, is born.

- Day of the final match of the 422nd Quidditch World Cup (GF8).
- Witches and wizards from all over the world assemble at the secluded moor where the match takes place (GF6).
- Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Fred, George, Ron, Ginny and Arthur Weasley hike to the nearest Portkey at the top of Stoatshead Hill before dawn. They meet Cedric and Amos Diggory and take the Portkey at seven past five (GF6).
- Percy, Bill and Charlie Weasley Apparate to the camp site at midday (GF7).
- Barty Crouch, Sr. and Ludo Bagman both stop at the Weasleys' tent to chat. Arthur and Fred and George make bets on the outcome of the game with Ludo. Crouch seems stressed out and calls Percy "Weatherby" (GF7).
- At dusk, about a hundred thousand witches and wizards march towards the stadium (GF8).
- Harry, Hermione and the Weasleys take their seats in the top box. They meet Winky, who pretends to save a seat for Mr. Crouch, Sr., the Malfoys, Fudge, and the Bulgarian Minister for Magic.
- Barty Crouch, Jr. sits next to Winky under an Invisibility Cloak. He steals Harry's wand from the boy's pocket during the match (GF35).
- Ireland wins the match, but Viktor Krum catches the Snitch, just as Fred and George guessed. Bagman pays the twins with leprechaun gold (GF8).
- The Weasleys, Harry and Hermione stay up late, talking about the match (GF9).

- Early in the morning, a group former Death Eaters torture the Muggle camp site manager's family, making them float and spin in the air (GF9).
- The camp site is in an uproar; many visitors flee into the woods (GF9).
- Ministry employees try to round the Death Eaters up and save the Muggles. Arthur, Charlie, Bill and Percy Weasley help them (GF9).
- The Trio, Ginny, Fred and George hide in the woods. The Trio quickly looses the others. Harry notices that his wand is missing (GF9).
- Barty Crouch, Jr. has managed to fight his father's Imperius Curse and drag Winky into the woods. He summons the Dark Mark, using Harry's wand. The Trio hears him say the incantation (GF9).
- The Death Eaters Disapparateat the sight of the Mark (GF9).
- Ministry employees Apparate to the scene of the crime. They shoot Stunners until Arthur Weasley recognises his son. Two Stunners hit Barty Crouch, Jr. and Winky.
- The Trio is questioned. Amos Diggory finds the Stunned Winky with Harry's wand. Mr. Crouch, Sr., checks the area for his son, correctly assuming that he is Stunned and covered by an Invisibility Cloak. He reinforces the Imperius Curse on his son (GF9, GF35).
- Although Winky is found innocent of casting the Mark, Mr. Crouch, Sr. sacks her. Hermione is enraged (GF9).
- The Trio and Mr. Weasley return to their tents. All the others are already there. The group goes back to sleep shortly before three o' clock (GF9). They get up after only a few hours and take an early Portkey back home at dawn. Molly Weasley is very relieved to see them (GF10).
- The Daily Prophet features an article by Rita Skeeter, in which she censures the Ministry's handling of the night's incident. The article sends the Ministry into a crisis and Percy and Arthur immediately leave for work (GF10).

- All wizarding children who have reached the age of eleven by this day receive a Hogwarts letter in July.

- Harry spends the last night of the summer holidays at The Burrow (CS5).
- Fred and George make a great display of Dr. Filibuster's fireworks at The Burrow (CS5).

- Harry meets Ron and Hermione in Diagon Alley. They stay at the Leaky Cauldron with Ron's family (PA4).
- Hermione buys Crookshanks at the Magical Menagerie (PA4).
- Harry overhears Arthur Weasley telling his wife that Sirius Black is after him (PA4).

- Last day before the return to Hogwarts (GF10).
- Arthur and Percy have been working long shifts at the Ministry all week because of the riots after the World Cup on August 26 (GF10).
- Molly complains that Arthur never had to work on weekends since the end of the First War (GF10).
- Arthur comes home late in the evening and announces that Rita Skeeter found out that Bertha Jorkins has disappeared (GF10).
- Harry and Ron finish packing their trunks. Ron finds his ugly dress robes and gets into an argument with Molly (GF10).
- 1995
- Sturgis Podmore, a member of the Order of the Phoenix, guards the entrance to the Department of Mysteries under Alastor Moody's spare Invisibility Cloak (OP14, OP17). Sturgis, who is under Lucius Malfoy's Imperius Curse (OP26), tries to break into the Department of Mysteries (OP14). He is arrested by watchwizard Eric Munch at one o'clock in the morning (OP14).
- Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger receive letters which inform them that they are the new Gryffindor Prefects (OP9).
- Molly Weasley buys Ron a Cleansweep Eleven. There is a little celebration for Ron and Hrmione in the evening (OP9).
- Molly wants to get rid of a Boggart alone and breaks down when the creature turns into dead members of her beloved family (OP9).
