Andromeda Tonks (née Black) is wife of Ted Tonks and the mother of Nymphadora Lupin. She was a Slytherin at Hogwarts (HBP4).
Andromeda is the daughter of Cygnus Black and Druella Rosier, the sister of Bellatrix Lestrange and Narcissa Malfoy, and elder cousin of Sirius and Regulus Black. She bears a strong resemblance to Bella, although she has lighter hair and "kinder" eyes (DH5). Raised by the Black family, Andromeda rebels against their pure-blooded prejudices by marring a Muggle-born. As a result, she is disowned from the family; neither of her sisters see her again after her marriage, and Bellatrix is quick to insist that Andromeda and Tonks are no longer considered family (DH1).
Sirius remembers Andromeda fondly, saying she was his favourite cousin (OP9); this is quite possibly because the two of them are the 'blood traitors' of their generation.
In the Second War, the Order of the Phoenix uses the Tonks' house is used as the mid-way point between Privet Drive and The Burrow (DH4). When Harry Potter and Hagrid crash-land in the Tonks' garden, Andromeda is immediately concerned for the safety of Nymphadora (DH5). It is suggested that she is displeased with her daughter's decision to marry Remus Lupin; however, when the Lupins are killed, she raises their son, Teddy (BLC).
Andromeda is very talented at house-holding spells such as packing (OP3).

Fanon
Andromeda is sometimes depicted in fanon as a rebel against her family from fairly early on, and as a big help to Sirius when he, too, decided to betray the Blacks' values. On the other hand, some ficwriters believe that her love for Ted Tonks was the only reason for her conduct.
