In this century...

  • Persecution of witches and wizards by Muggles continues, driving many wizarding families into hiding. Distrust of Muggles is reflected in children's tales. By the middle of the century, a popular version of Beedle the Bard's originally pro-Muggle tale The Wizard and the Hopping Pot features an innocent wizard who is protected from his blood-lusting Muggle neighbours by his cooking pot (BB1).

  • Wizards in Ireland and England start experimenting with metal Bludgers made of lead that will not crack as easily as their stone counterparts. Wizards later switch to iron because lead proves to be too soft for the bats (QA6).

According to the fourth chapter of Quidditch through the Ages, Bowman Wright is supposed to have invented the Snitch in the 14th century, during Elfrida Clagg's time as Chief of the Wizards' Council. However, according to the dates on his card he lives from 1492 to 1560, which does not match Clagg's lifetime (16121687) at all and places his invention in the 16th century.
